Applications are now being accepted for the 2023 Jennifer Ward Oppenheimer (JWO) Research Grant. A research grant named after Jennifer Ward Oppenheimer was established. Her love for Africa, the environment, and cutting-edge science will be furthered by the funding. The grant’s goal is to assist scientists in their early careers who are engaged in important research that will address some of Africa’s most pressing issues.

When she relocated to Zimbabwe with Jonathan Oppenheimer in the mid-1990s, Jennifer Ward Oppenheimer developed a passion for the continent of Africa. She accepted South Africa as her home when they relocated there in 1999. Her philanthropy interests initially focused on health and education, but as she learned more about the difficulties that South Africa, Africa, and the rest of the globe faced, the environment came to the fore and grew to play a large role in her passion and emphasis. Her efforts to comprehend how a sustainable ecosystem might be developed where man and the environment may thrive and live for generations became centered on sustainable ecology.
