UNESCO announces the opening of the nomination period for the 2023 UNESCO Award for Girls’ and Women’s Education on International Women’s Day. Every year, the Award gives US$ 50,000 to two laureates who have made remarkable contributions to women’s and girls’ education.

The UNESCO Prize for Girls’ and Women’s Education recognizes exceptional and creative efforts made by people, institutions, and organizations to enhance the education of girls and women. It is the first award of this kind from UNESCO and stands out for recognizing innovative initiatives that raise the status of women and girls in society by enhancing their opportunities for education.

Benefits

The Award, which is supported by the Government of the People’s Republic of China. Is given to two laureates each year and includes a US $50,000 payment. To support their efforts in the field of girls’ and women’s education. In 2016, the UNESCO Director-General presented the Award for the first time.

Application Conditions

  • The nomination of up to three people, institutions, or organizations that have made significant, original contributions in support of girls’ and women’s education is invited from governments of UNESCO Member States and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in official collaboration with UNESCO.
  • For more information, interested applicants are encouraged to get in touch with their nation’s National Commission for UNESCO, Permanent Delegation to UNESCO, or an Organisation that is officially partnered with UNESCO.
