Deadline: 31st of March 2023 | WIPO National Intellectual Property Essay Competition 2023, International Intellectual Property Organization
The WIPO National IP Essay Competition 2023 is now accepting applications. The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) observes World Intellectual Property Day on April 26 to raise awareness of the contribution that IP rights make to fostering innovation and creativity.
The focus of this year’s conference is on how women can accelerate innovation and creativity through the use of intellectual property (IP). It considers the difficulties women encounter in gaining access to the information, expertise, resources, and support they require to prosper and honors the pioneering work and can-do spirit of female inventors, creators, and entrepreneurs around the world.
For the 2023 National IP Essay Competition, with the theme “Gender Inclusivity as a Strategy to Promote Innovation and Creativity in Nigeria,” the WIPO Nigeria Office invites participation from all university students in Nigeria. As they investigate policy ideas in line with this year’s theme for encouraging the increased participation of women in Nigeria’s innovation and creativity landscape, students participating in this competition will have a fantastic opportunity to research and learn more about the field of intellectual property.

Eligibility
- Available to all enrolled undergraduate and graduate students at accredited tertiary institutions in Nigeria, including universities, colleges of education, polytechnics, and professional or vocational schools.

Application For WIPO National Intellectual Property Essay Competition 2023
The prerequisites for applying are as follows:
- English must be used in the essay’s writing.
- essays shouldn’t be more than 1,500 words (bibliography and references are excluded from the word count).
- The font size for entries should be 12 Arial (Black), with double line spacing, and the pages should be numbered.
- Submissions must be made in both Word and PDF format.
- There cannot be any images or other graphical elements in the submissions.
- Submissions must not contain any information about the author or anybody else, including their name, affiliation, school, phone number, or email address.
- Any form of plagiarism can lead to disqualification.
- Artificial intelligence-generated creations are not accepted and will be disqualified.
- After the specified deadline, submissions won’t be taken into consideration.
- When submitting, a legitimate student ID card or enrollment documentation is necessary.
- Send all submissions to nigeria.office@wipo.int with the subject initial.surname WIPD23 Essay Competition (for instance, G. Nduka WIPD23 Essay Competition).
The competition’s winners will be revealed in April 2023.
