This picture contest is being organized by Water Science Policy under the auspices of UNESCO’s World Water Assessment Program, building on the organization’s multidisciplinary focus on culture, education, and the natural sciences. It is meant to:

·      The interconnectedness between water with different aspects of culture, from legacy to the arts and creativity, in both the past and the present;

·      Show how the usage and management of water could be supported in a sustainable manner by culture;

·      Educate on the use and management of water, especially using the intersectoral viewpoints of important parties, such as artists, cultural practitioners, and civil society organizations, and contribute to collaborative efforts in the global water agenda.

Prize information

On February 10, 2023, the three winners will be formally announced and awarded a cash prize. The top 15 winning works will be displayed at the prestigious UN 2023 Water Conference in New York City in March 2023. This conference will influence how we manage water over the following ten years. All submissions will be taken into consideration for publication on the website of Water Science Policy as well as for a photo book. Everybody who is published gets a complimentary photo book.

·      First place: 400 euros, as well as publication on the WSP website, inclusion in a photobook, a free copy of the photobook, and display at the UN 2023 Water Conference in New York.

·      2nd place: 200 euros, publication on the WSP website, inclusion in a photobook, a complimentary copy of the photobook, and display at the UN 2023 Water Conference in New York

·      3rd place: 100 euros plus publication on the WSP website, inclusion in a photo book, a complimentary copy of the photo book, and display in New York during the UN 2023 Water Conference

Guidelines for Submissions:

·      5–10 images that depict the themes of “water, partnerships, and teamwork.”

·      Each image needs to have a number and a succinct caption.

·      Photos should be in.jpg or.png format and have a minimum resolution of 1920 x 1080.

·      A participant may submit a maximum of three (3) photostories. Each tale will be evaluated separately.

·      Please read the submissions guidelines as well.

·      You have until February 14, 2023, to send your photostories to em.harrigan@unesco.org if you’re up for the challenge.

·      1 Word or.pdf document containing a title, a 200–500 word summary of the narrative, the names of the author(s), the country and location of the photostory, and a list of captions for each image.

·      5–15 images. Photos ought to include short captions that are related and numbered. Photos should be in.jpg or.png format and have a minimum resolution of 1920 x 1080.

·      A signed copy of the Photo Licence Agreement in one Word or.pdf file
