Édouard Carmignac sought to establish the Carmignac Photojournalism Prize in 2009 to aid photographers working in the industry in the midst of an unparalleled media and photojournalism crisis.
The Carmignac Photojournalism Prize, under the direction of Emeric Glayse, sponsors the creation of an investigative photographic and journalistic report on global human rights crimes and the geopolitical challenges they raise each year – The 13th annual Carmignac Photojournalism Award – euros 50000
DEADLINE: 17th October, 2022
The winner, chosen by an international jury, is awarded a grant of €50,000, enabling them to write a 6-month field report with assistance from the Carmignac Foundation, which also funds a traveling exhibition and the publication of a monographic book after their return.
The 13th annual Carmignac Photojournalism Award (Prix Carmignac du photojournalisme) will highlight Ghana’s environmental and social issues.
Is this year’s event themed in some way?
The 13th Carmignac Photojournalism Award is, in fact, devoted to Ghana and the ecological and social problems that it faces.
Please be aware that entries unrelated to Ghana will not be taken into consideration.
Who is serving this year’s pre-judging jury? What time will they meet?
Pre-jury Le Monde’s Director of Photography, Nicolas Jimenez
The Guardian’s director of photography is Fiona Shields
The New York Times’ Miko Takkunen is the international desk’s photo editor.
To deliberate, they will gather in Paris in November 2022.
How is the winner chosen?
There are two stages to the laureate selection process. The pre-jury, which is made up of directors of photography, chooses 12 to 15 applications from the pool of submissions. The laureate project is chosen by the jury, which is made up of individuals with expertise in Ghana and modern image. The jury meets with the photographer once the selection process is complete to hear their opinions and, if necessary, to offer any assistance that will be needed while they work on their project, from the creation of the reportage to the exhibition.
When will the winner be notified, and how?
By mid-November, photographers who have been shortlisted will get emails. Each applicant who is not chosen will also receive an email notification. Following the jury’s consideration, the winner will be contacted by phone as soon as it has reached a conclusion. Unfortunately, it is not possible to provide each candidate who was not chosen for the Award with personalized feedback.
What conditions must be met before applying?
Photographers from all countries, regardless of nationality, are eligible for the Carmignac Photojournalism Award. Applications might be either individual or group efforts. To participate, a press card is not required.
