News Equity Fund by Google – Opportunities For Africans

As part of its global commitment to helping news organizations that primarily serve underserved areas, Google has established the “News Equity Fund.” – News Equity Fund by Google – Opportunities For Africans

Our goals are to increase diversity in the news industry, enhance inclusion, and support small and medium-sized publishers who are producing original content for underserved populations globally.

Eligibility requirements for applications for the News Equity Fund by Google

Original news is produced by small and medium-sized news organizations for underrepresented audiences.

Independent newsrooms with between one and fifty full-time employees are eligible to apply for the News Equity Fund (FTE).

Traditional news organizations, whether for-profit or nonprofit, digital natives, newsletters, podcasts, radio and/or TV broadcasters, and trade press associations with members who cover underrepresented groups are also eligible applicants.

Those who qualify should frequently publish journalism.

Candidates must focus on core news coverage, not lifestyle or sports, in order to be eligible.

Applicants that meet the requirements must have been fully operational for at least a year and have a verified online presence (such as a website that predominantly offers journalistic content).

As long as you are based in one of the eligible geographies, you are welcome to submit an application on behalf of incorporated or registered associations or organizations, registered academic or non-profit entities, or groups that represent underrepresented journalists.

Entities owned by the government or those connected to or owned by a political party are ineligible to apply.

Only English-language online applications will be evaluated.
