The International Women’s Media Foundation Kim Wall Memorial Fund is a grant that is established to fund women or non-binary reporters who cover subculture, broadly defined and what Kim liked to call “the undercurrents of rebellion.” The fund will provide two $5,000 grants to journalists who have done work that embody the spirit of Kim’s reporting. Kim wanted more women to be out in the world to brush up against life and this Kim Wall Memorial Fund honors that legacy – International Women’s Media Foundation (IWMF) Kim Wall Memorial Fund 2022 for Journalists (USD $5,000 Grant)
Who is eligible?
The following criteria must be met by all applicants for the fund;
- Journalists who are affiliated or freelance women or non-binary with at least three years of professional experience working in news media across the world. You should note that internships do not count as a professional experience.
- Excellent written and verbal English skills is a must for applicants so that they can fully participate and gain from this program. Applicant’s reporting may be published in any language.
- There must be proof of interest by journalists from an editor or a proven track record of publication in reputable media outlets.
- The fund does not cover the cost of purchasing or renting equipment and cannot support academic research or research for academic publication. However, grants will be provided to cover reporting-related costs that include travel, logistics, insurance, visa fees, professional stipends as well as payments for producers, translators and so many more.
The Period of Application
The IWMF started accepting applications on November 9, 2021 and it will stop on December 16, 2021 at 11:59 PM EST. Time-sensitive proposals cannot be accepted by IWMF.
January 2022 is the month in which all applications will be reviewed and each of them will receive a response no later than February 2022.
March 23, 2022 is Kim’s birthday on which grantees will be announced publicly.
