About the Stanford Next Asia Policy Lab

The Stanford Next Asia Policy Lab (SNAPL) is dedicated to addressing emergent social, cultural, financial, and political challenges in Asia by means of:

  • Interdisciplinary, problem-oriented analysis
  • Policy-relevant and comparative research
  • Publications that inform international debates

SNAPL is housed at Shorenstein APARC underneath the directorship of Professor Gi-Wook Shin.

  • Democratic Crisis and Reform

Call for Applications: 2026–2028 Next Asia Policy Postdoctoral Fellowship

SNAPL invites functions for two 2-year postdoctoral fellowships for students with sturdy pursuits in interdisciplinary analysis and coverage engagement on modern Asia.

Key Details

  • Application Deadline: December 1, 2025
  • Start Date: Fall Quarter 2026
  • Tracks Available:
    • Talent Flows and Development
    • Nationalism and Racism (precedence monitor)
    • U.S.-Asia Relations
    • Democratic Crisis and Reform

Each fellow will:

  • Lead one thematic collaborative analysis group
  • Support scholar programming for SNAPL
  • Contribute to common analysis and publication actions

Duration

  • Appointment: Two years
  • Possibility of extension contingent on efficiency and funding

Compensation

  • Annual wage: $80,000 plus advantages
  • Fellows have to be in residence at Stanford for the length
  • Privileges embody:
    • Access to Stanford analysis services
    • Participation in occasions on the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies and throughout campus

Call for Applications: 2026–2027 Next Asia Policy Visiting Fellowship

SNAPL presents two visiting scholar positions to researchers from Asia, starting Fall Quarter 2026.

Key Details

  • Application Deadline: March 1, 2026
  • Positions Available:
    • General visiting fellowship
    • Fellowship devoted to analysis on the Philippines

Eligibility

  • Scholars and professionals from the Asia-Pacific area
  • PhD holders or professionals with substantial information of accomplishment
  • Research should align with one in all SNAPL’s 4 themes

Duration

  • Appointment: One tutorial 12 months

Stipend

  • Supplementary stipend: $30,000
  • Fellows have to be in residence at Stanford
  • Privileges embody:
    • Access to Stanford analysis services
    • Opportunity to audit related programs (with teacher permission)
    • Participation in occasions on the Freeman Spogli Institute and throughout campus
