African Youth Ambassadors for Peace (AYAP): Call for Application for the 4th Cohort

Applications are open for the 4th Cohort of the African Youth Ambassadors for Peace (AYAP). As part of the efforts to advance the Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) agenda of the African Union (AU), the former Peace and Security Department (now the Political Affairs, Peace and Security Department, PAPS), launched the Youth for Peace (Africa) Program (Y4P) in September 2018, with the main goal of facilitating the significant participation of African youth in the whole spectrum of peace and safety, and dissuading their participation in violence.
To improve youth participation in the peace and safety agenda on the continent, the AU Peace and Security Council (PSC) throughout its 807th assembly requested the AU Commission to nominate 5 regional African Youth Ambassadors for Peace (AYAP) to work with the AU Youth Envoy in championing the promotion of peace and safety on the continent.
The AYAPs, working underneath the direct supervision of the management of the PAPS Department of the AUC, shall champion the promotion and advocacy of youth participation in peace and safety points at the regional degree and throughout Africa. Specifically, the AYAPs will promote the actualization of the 5 priorities of the Continental Framework on Youth, Peace and Security (CFYPS), that are guided by Article 17 of the AU Youth Charter (2006) and the United Nations Security Council Resolutions (UNSCR) 2250 (2015), 2419 (2018) and 2535 (2020).
Mission of the AYAPs
The AYAPs shall:
- Advocate for the promotion of the rights of younger individuals in his/her area;
- Advocate and lift consciousness on the AU Continental Framework on Youth Peace and Security (CFYPS) and its 10-Year Implementation Plan of their area;
- Encourage and assist AU Member States in the area with the coordination of the Y4P program to boost the growth of National Action Plans and its implementation of their area;
- Implement regional youth actions masking the 5 (5) precedence areas of the CFYPS;
- On request, symbolize the AU PAPS in conferences, trainings and workshops.
Eligibility
Application is open to all African Youth with demonstrated dedication and important contribution to the promotion of sustainable peace and safety on the continent. Applications from eligible youth, together with younger ladies, displaced individuals and individuals with disabilities who meet the following standards are notably inspired:
- Be between the ages of 18 to 35, all through the tenure as an AYAP, in tandem with the AU Youth age;
- Possess a bachelor’s college diploma and have at the least 2 years’ expertise in peace and safety with demonstrated potential for advocacy on youth, peace and safety points in addition to useful resource mobilization;
- Have expertise in selling and supporting peace processes, particularly in initiating and facilitating multi-stakeholder dialogues and mediation efforts;

- Possess robust communication and advocacy abilities;
- English, French, Arabic, Portuguese, Swahili and Spanish are the working languages of the AU. Fluency in any AU working language is required; data of one other AU language could be an asset.
