The Faculty of Science (FNWI) at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) is inviting functions for the Global South Fellowship Scheme 2026. This prestigious fellowship presents gifted scientists from the Global South the alternative to conduct collaborative analysis at one of Europe’s main educational establishments.

The initiative goals to foster world scientific change, promote variety, and strengthen analysis partnerships between the University of Amsterdam and establishments in growing international locations.

About the Fellowship

The Global South Fellowship Scheme supplies 4 visiting fellowships for researchers from growing nations to spend a number of months at the Faculty of Science. Fellows will collaborate carefully with UvA scientists, interact in interdisciplinary initiatives, and contribute to advancing analysis of their respective fields.

One fellowship is co-sponsored by the Dutch Institute for Emergent Phenomena (DIEP) and one other by CIMPA, with particular thematic focuses in emergent phenomena and arithmetic, respectively.

Fellowship Benefits

Successful fellows will obtain:

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants should:

  • Have a confirmed co-applicant from the Faculty of Science (FNWI) at the University of Amsterdam, at the stage of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor.
  • Hold an employment contract or scholarship settlement at their home establishment for the total length of the fellowship.
  • Be at any profession stage — together with PhD college students, postdoctoral researchers, or educational workers — with a powerful curiosity and collaborative mindset.

Expectations from Fellows

Fellows are anticipated to:

  • Be current at the Faculty of Science at least three days per week.
  • Collaborate actively with their UvA co-applicant and the broader FNWI analysis neighborhood.
  • Deliver an opening presentation and take part in Global South Plan occasions.
  • Submit a closing report (co-authored with the UvA co-applicant) summarizing fellowship outcomes and outlining future collaboration alternatives.

Selection Process

Only 4 fellowships will probably be awarded on this pilot version. Selection will probably be primarily based on:

  • Academic observe report and analysis potential
  • Experience in worldwide collaboration
  • Alignment with DIEP or CIMPA thematic areas (for 2 of the fellowships)
  • Diversity in analysis fields, gender steadiness, and profession stage distribution
