Are you a local weather scientist or practitioner from a Small Island Developing State (SIDS)? Are you able to elevate your management in world local weather science—or empower others in your area to do the identical?

The Small Island Developing States Climate Initiative (SIDSCI) at Emory University, together with its companions, invites you to apply for the 2026 hybrid workshop:

“Increasing Representation and Leadership of Small Island Researchers in Global Climate Change Science”

  • Dates: January 6–9, 2026
  • Format: Hybrid (In-person in Miami, Florida, and Online)
  • Number of Participants: 50 whole (25 in particular person, 25 on-line)

This four-day workshop is designed to amplify the voices and experience of island researchers throughout the Caribbean, Atlantic, Indian Ocean, and Pacific areas. It will give attention to constructing networks, enhancing participation in worldwide local weather processes, and advancing justice in science and coverage.


Workshop Objectives

Participants will:

  • Increase illustration of SIDS researchers in world local weather assessments, together with the IPCC’s Seventh Assessment Report (AR7)
  • Build interdisciplinary analysis networks amongst island students and practitioners
  • Advance justice and fairness in local weather science and coverage throughout areas

Who Should Apply?

The program is open to people who meet one of many following standards:

  • PhD-level researchers, together with early-career and mid-career lecturers
  • Bachelor’s-level practitioners working in climate-related roles in island communities

Eligible candidates needs to be working in fields aligned with the themes of the three IPCC Working Groups, which can embody:

  • Biodiversity and ecosystems
  • Public and planetary well being
  • Climate change adaptation and mitigation
  • Energy techniques and decarbonization
  • Climate finance and coverage
  • Social fairness and environmental justice

Fully Funded Participation

For in-person contributors, this system will cowl:

  • Round-trip airfare to Miami, Florida
