Overview

In response, the African Union (AU) launched the Innovating Education in Africa (IEA) program in 2018. This initiative is designed to:

  • Identify and help impactful training improvements

  • Promote sustainable integration of those improvements into public training methods

Since its inception, the IEA program has:

  • Engaged over 1,500 training stakeholders

  • Promoted 180 improvements

  • Provided as much as USD 1 million in technical and monetary help


Objectives:

  • Mobilize African training innovators to suggest contextually related options

  • Incentivize identification of main training and expertise improvement challenges

  • Source options for potential adoption, replication, and scale-up

  • Foster partnerships between innovators, instructional establishments, governments, and stakeholders


Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants should:

  • Be a citizen of an AU Member State

  • Lead a legally registered and licensed group in an AU Member State

  • Be instantly accountable for the administration and implementation of the innovation

  • Have an training innovation already efficiently applied in not less than one AU nation, with verifiable outcomes

  • Not be a previous recipient of IEA program grants

An training innovation refers to a services or products that applies a comparatively distinct method to fixing instructional challenges, particularly throughout the African context.


Application Procedure:

Applications should be submitted on-line (in English or French) via this link and should embody the next:

  • A short assertion of the problem being addressed (max 100 phrases)

  • A report on the innovation’s efficiency and outcomes (max 500 phrases)

iii. Early Pitch (Virtual) 10 finalists chosen for Final Pitch September 2025
iv. Final Pitch (Date TBC) 3 winners chosen and awarded grants September 2025

Benefits for Selected Applicants:

  • Grants of as much as USD 50,000 for three profitable improvements to combine and validate their options inside public training methods

  • Inclusion in the Africa Education Innovations Handbook 2025

  • Promotion to AU Member States and worldwide improvement companions

  • Certificate of Recognition from the Commissioner of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation of the African Union
