Study Session: Uniting for a Safer Europe
Across Europe, younger environmental defenders are experiencing rising repression and threats regardless of working in democratic environments. These embody authorized harassment, criminalisation of protest, police violence, and social backlash.
This five-day study session goals to construct solidarity, present instruments, and deepen understanding of human rights protections for younger environmental and local weather activists. It brings collectively youth from throughout Council of Europe member states to construct resilience, consciousness, and collaboration in protection of the surroundings and democratic participation.
Objectives of the Study Session
- Increase understanding of authorized protections accessible to environmental defenders below European human rights frameworks.
- Create a secure area for sharing experiences, greatest practices, and challenges in environmental activism.
- Strengthen connections between youth activists and policy-making establishments.
- Empower younger folks to change into stronger advocates for environmental justice and democratic participation.
Eligibility Criteria
Essential Requirements:
- Age 18–30
- Based in a Council of Europe member state
- Active in grassroots environmental or local weather activism
- Interested in environmental justice, protest rights, and democracy
- Comfortable with English
- Available for full program together with journey days
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience with repression associated to activism
- Working on the intersection of local weather justice with gender, labour, or different rights
- Affiliated with an environmental youth NGO or native initiative
- Willing to share learnings and sources with wider networks
