STARS@MIT: Small-Town and Rural Students Fly-In Program 2025

MIT is now accepting purposes for the 2025 STARS@MIT Fly-In Program, a completely funded alternative designed for U.S. highschool juniors from rural and small-town communities. This three-day program will happen in October 2025, giving chosen college students the prospect to expertise life at MIT and discover greater schooling pathways.

STARS@MIT is part of the STARS College Network, a nationwide coalition of main faculties and universities devoted to supporting college students from rural and small-town backgrounds as they navigate the school admissions course of and discover selective greater schooling choices.

Program Overview

The STARS@MIT Fly-In Program will run from the afternoon of October 16 to the afternoon of October 18, 2025. Selected college students will spend three immersive days at MIT’s campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Participants will:

• Stay in a residence corridor with a present MIT undergraduate pupil

• Explore MIT labs, school rooms, and makerspaces

• Engage with MIT pupil life and tradition

• Tour Cambridge and Boston, together with instruction on utilizing public transit (the “T”)

• Attend school admissions workshops tailor-made for rural and small-town college students

• Reflect on private identification, background, and future tutorial targets

Throughout the go to, members will join with present MIT college students who additionally come from small-town and rural backgrounds, providing a firsthand perspective on the coed expertise at MIT.

Travel, Accommodations, and Meals

MIT gives full funding for:

• Round-trip journey (booked by MIT in coordination with chosen college students)

• Housing lodging in an MIT residence corridor, hosted by a present pupil

• All meals for the length of this system

Important: Do not e-book your personal journey. MIT will coordinate all logistics with chosen members after acceptance.

Who Should Apply?

This program is designed for U.S. highschool college students within the Class of 2027 (present juniors) who:

• Live in a rural or small-town neighborhood

• Are intellectually curious and community-minded

• Show robust curiosity in STEM, particularly the place it intersects with the humanities

• May attend faculties with restricted superior coursework or school counseling assets

Application Requirements

There isn’t any application charge. An entire application should embody:

• Basic private and tutorial info

• An unofficial highschool transcript

• One advice kind (submitted by a trainer or counselor by way of e mail)

• Responses to the next short-answer questions:

  • Describe a big facet of your neighborhood, background, or identification that’s important to understanding your journey (350 phrases or much less)

  • What is one thing you recognize about your rural or small-town neighborhood? How has that formed your academic journey?

  • What main are you curious about? Why does this main/division at MIT curiosity you, and how does it connect with your curiosity in STEM?

  • What are you hoping to study or expertise throughout this program? How will you share what you’ve discovered together with your neighborhood?

Note: Participation might require college students to overlook 2–3 days of college. A letter of participation shall be offered upon request.
