About the Opportunity

The GASPAR analysis group (www.gaspar.ugent.be) is providing a 4-year totally funded doctoral fellowship to a motivated candidate wanting to pursue a PhD on the undertaking:

“Do voters use socio-demographic cues to estimate politicians’ ideological positions? (IdeoPos)”

Supervised by Prof. Dr. Bram Wauters and Dr. Robin Devroe, the undertaking explores how voters kind perceptions of politicians’ ideological leanings based mostly on private traits similar to gender, ethnicity, and age. The analysis will make use of experimental strategies to look at how these shortcuts affect democratic decision-making, belief, and polarization.

 Your Role

As a Doctoral Fellow, you’ll:

  • Independently develop and execute your PhD undertaking

  • Conduct experiments and statistical evaluation

  • Present at worldwide conferences

  • Publish findings in world tutorial journals

  • Engage with the GASPAR analysis workforce and contribute to its actions


 Who Can Apply

Candidates will need to have:

  • A Master’s diploma in Political Science, Sociology, Public Administration, Political Psychology, or a associated human sciences area

  • A scientific, important, and unbiased mindset

  • Interest or background in ideological stereotypes, experimental design, and statistical strategies

  • Strong writing expertise in English (Dutch is a plus or must be developed)

  • Commitment to finish a full PhD and take part in doctoral coaching

Last-year college students (graduating June 2025) are particularly inspired to apply.
