Apply for META Small Grants for Kenyan CBOs – Up to KES 3M in Funding!


The African Women’s Development and Communication Network (FEMNET), in partnership with the EU Delegation in Kenya, is accepting purposes for the Meaningful Engagement – Transformative Action (META) small grants program. The initiative helps grassroots community-based organizations (CBOs) throughout Kenya to improve their coverage engagement, organizational capability, and affect in nationwide and EU-Kenya improvement dialogues.

About the META Grant

Led by FEMNET, in collaboration with SDGs Kenya Forum and WECF International, the META initiative is designed to:

  • Strengthen structured dialogue between civil society and the EU

  • Build capability amongst youth- and women-led CBOs

  • Enhance inclusive governance and sustainable improvement

The program is supported by the European Union Delegation to Kenya beneath the 2022–2025 EU Roadmap for Engagement with Civil Society.

Who Can Apply

Eligible candidates should be:

  • Kenyan grassroots CBOs registered beneath the Societies Act, Trust Act, Companies Act, or with the Department of Social Services

  • Nonprofit, non-governmental, non-political organizations

  • Women-, youth-, disability-, or indigenous-led CBOs are strongly inspired to apply

Ineligible: National NGOs, INGOs, people, for-profits, political events, or authorities entities.

Focus Areas

Applicants should suggest tasks aligned with no less than one of many EU–Kenya strategic priorities:

  • Green transition (e.g., clear vitality, biodiversity, round financial system)

  • Human-centered digitalization (e.g., digital literacy, e-governance)

  • Governance, peace, and safety (e.g., anti-corruption, civic participation)

  • Gender and youth empowerment (e.g., SRHR, financial inclusion)

  • Civil society enabling setting (e.g., implementation of PBO Act 2013)

Funding & Support

  • Grant measurement: KES 600,000 – 3,000,000 per undertaking

  • Target: 16 CBOs throughout all 47 counties in Kenya

  • Project length: 3–20 months (ending no later than February 2027)

  • Support supplied: Capacity-building, visibility assets, reporting steering

Evaluation Process

Applications might be reviewed by the META consortium with involvement from a Youth Sounding Board. Shortlisted CBOs will:
