In a daring testomony to reality, integrity, and the enduring energy of the press, the European Parliament has formally opened submissions for the 2025 version of the Daphne Caruana Galizia Prize for Journalism. This prestigious €20,000 award acknowledges excellent investigative journalism that defends the foundational values of the European Union — together with democracy, human rights, the rule of regulation, and press freedom.
About the Prize
Named in honor of Daphne Caruana Galizia, the brave Maltese journalist and anti-corruption blogger assassinated in 2017, this annual prize shines a highlight on those that dare to problem energy and expose injustice.
“A free press is the best shield for democracy,” mentioned European Parliament President Roberta Metsola. “This prize belongs to every journalist who fights for the facts — no matter how uncomfortable they are.”
Who Can Apply?
This alternative is open to:
- Professional journalists and groups of journalists
- Any nationality
- Submitting in-depth journalistic work (articles, documentaries, investigations, and many others.)
- Published or broadcast in any of the 27 EU member states
Entries should defend or promote EU core rules resembling:
- Human dignity
- Freedom
- Democracy
- Equality
- Rule of regulation
- Human rights.
Prize Details
- Award Amount: €20,000 (tax-free)
- Selection: An impartial jury of media consultants, civil society representatives, and EU journalists’ associations
- Award Ceremony: Held mid-October 2025, marking the anniversary of Daphne Caruana Galizia’s assassination (16 October).
