Applications are open for the Brooklyn Caribbean Literary Festival Short Fiction Story Contest 2025. The BCLF Short Fiction Story Contest is an annual writing competitors geared in the direction of unearthing and inspiring the distinctive voice and story of the Caribbean-descended author and increasing the artistic writing panorama of Caribbean literature.

Started in 2019 because the Emergent Writers Contest for unpublished writers with the group’s maiden voyage into the literary world, its major mission was to unearth the hidden storytellers of Caribbean descent within the North American diaspora by serving as encouragement and incentive for them to write down their tales. That prize was referred to as the BCLF Elizabeth Nunez Caribbean-American Writer’s Prize. Flummoxed by entries from writers within the area, in 2020, the competitors was renamed the BCLF Short Fiction Story Contest and a second prize appeared, particularly focused to writers within the Caribbean. The regional prize, not like the diaspora one was opened to writers of all ranges with the distinctive eligibility clause of residency within the Caribbean.

Eligibility

For the BCLF Elizabeth Nunez Caribbean-American Writer’s Prize:

  • All entrants have to be of Caribbean heritage/of Caribbean descent;
  • Be a resident of the United States/Canada;
  • Be over the age of 18 years;
  • Self-published writers could apply.

For the BCLF Elizabeth Nunez Award for Writers within the Caribbean:

  • Exclusively open to unpublished and revealed writers who have been born/raised and holding nationality within the Caribbean;
  • You could submit in case you are presently on momentary task elsewhere on the earth (besides the US and Canada);
  • Submitted tales have to be unique works of fiction;
  • Be over the age of 18 years;
  • All writers no matter their publishing standing could apply.
