Building the African Youth Adaptation Network – Global Youth Call to Action


The Youth Adaptation Network (YAN), launched in 2020 as part of the Global Youth Call to Action on Adaptation, is a worldwide platform devoted to partaking, empowering, and amplifying the function of younger folks in local weather adaptation. Designed as a collective motion, YAN unites youth-led organizations and passionate younger people worldwide to flip information into motion and advocate for accelerated native adaptation options.

Key Objectives of the Youth Adaptation Network

YAN is dedicated to:

  • Connecting youth and youth-led organizations to develop a worldwide youth adaptation motion.

  • Empowering younger leaders to drive progressive local weather adaptation initiatives.

  • Centering youth voices in the local weather adaptation coverage and motion agendas.


Membership Structure

YAN affords two ranges of membership:

  • In-Country Focal Points in Africa
    One youth-led group per African nation will likely be chosen to symbolize their nation as the major coordinator of youth adaptation actions.

  • General Members
    Open to all youth and youth-led organizations globally. Interested people and teams are inspired to apply and turn out to be part of the world’s largest youth adaptation motion.


Open Call: African In-Country Focal Points

In 2025, the Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) is scaling up YAN’s presence in Africa. Registered Youth-led organizations throughout the continent are invited to apply to turn out to be the In-Country Focal Point for his or her nation.

This initiative affords a novel alternative to:

  • Engage with a pan-African community,

  • Amplify your group’s voice,

  • Accelerate youth-pushed adaptation efforts regionally.


Application Requirements

Eligible candidates have to be:

  • Registered organizations,

Benefits of Becoming an In-Country Focal Point

Selected organizations will obtain:

  • Access to on-line coaching on youth management and local weather adaptation.

Selection Process

  1. Open Call for Applications
    Submit your application earlier than 19 May 2025.

  2. Shortlisting
    Applications will likely be reviewed and shortlisted by GCA. Announcement: 26 May.

  3. Video Submission
    Shortlisted organizations submit a 1-minute video outlining their imaginative and prescient. Deadline: 1 June.

  4. Public Voting
    Videos are printed on social media for public voting from 4–11 June.

  5. Onboarding
    Winning organizations are formally onboarded and introduced on 16 June.


Commitments of In-Country Focal Points

Selected focal factors will commit to a one-12 months voluntary time period, throughout which they may:

  • Nominate two YAN Contact Persons,

  • Participate in quarterly and advert-hoc on-line conferences,

  • Raise consciousness about YAN and assist youth registration regionally,

  • Conduct a studying wants evaluation utilizing GCA instruments,

  • Lead Youth Climate Adaptation Action Day by:

    • Hosting a nationwide session on 12 October,

    • Submitting a written communiqué for presentation at COP30,

  • Engage with the Youth Academy, selling use of the GCA Toolkit,

  • Share information by weblog posts and publication contributions.


Selection Criteria

Applicants will likely be evaluated based mostly on:

  • Experience in local weather motion and adaptation,

  • Proven potential to mobilize and have interaction youth,

  • Local attain and visibility,

  • Ability to nominate certified YAN Contact Persons,

  • Organizational capability and dependable web entry,

  • Commitment to range and inclusion, demonstrated by submission of disaggregated membership knowledge (e.g., gender, incapacity, academic background).
