The Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA) and the University of the Western Cape (UWC) have opened the decision for purposes for the 2026 Museum Fellowship Programme—a transformative, full-time, year-long initiative for rising professionals in artwork, heritage, and museum observe from throughout the African continent.

This prestigious pan-African fellowship equips members with each educational and hands-on expertise in up to date artwork, museology, curatorship, heritage research, conservation, artwork schooling, and institutional development. The programme is supported by the Mellon Foundation and can run from February 2026 to January 2027.

About the Fellowship

The programme is co-convened by Dr. Greer Valley (Zeitz MOCAA) and Prof. Rory Bester (UWC), and blends idea with real-world application. Fellows cut up their time between:

  • Three days/week working at Zeitz MOCAA on exhibitions, analysis, schooling, and institutional initiatives
  • Two days/week finding out at UWC’s Department of Historical Studies, finishing coursework towards an accredited postgraduate diploma

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants should:

  • Be residents of an African nation
  • Hold a bachelor’s diploma in artwork, heritage, museum research, or one other related humanities discipline
  • Demonstrate capability for postgraduate-level work
  • Show 2–3 years of related expertise in museums, galleries, or associated fields
  • Have sturdy information of latest African artwork and heritage
  • Be proficient in English
  • Commit to full-time participation for 12 months (Feb 2026 – Jan 2027)

Note: Only the first 100 purposes might be thought of.
