About the Fellowship
Investisseurs & Partenaires (I&P) is happy to announce the launch of the African Development Bank Fellowship for Emerging Fund Managers. This fellowship goals to help 20 rising African fund managers actively investing throughout the continent.
About the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Lab: Is housed beneath the Human Capital, Youth and Skills Development Department (AHHD) at AfDB. The Lab goals to help high-potential startups and improve entrepreneurial ecosystems throughout the continent.
This 8-month programme, beginning in June 2025, is designed to assist rising fund managers:

Scale their operations

Overcome key development obstacles
-
Strengthen investor relations
-
Build lasting institutional capability
It gives a complete mix of coaching, mentorship, and networking alternatives particularly tailor-made to the African funding panorama.
Responding to Sector-Wide Challenges
The fellowship addresses a spread of structural points confronting fund managers throughout Africa:

Difficulty accessing capital and constructing belief with institutional buyers and DFIs

Complexities in fund structuring and aligning with various LP expectations
-
Operational challenges in group administration, deal execution, and compliance
-
Rising expectations associated to local weather finance, gender-lens investing, and impression measurement

Limited entry to LP networks and capital allocators
-
Broader macroeconomic and perception-related obstacles, particularly for youth- and women-led funds

Eligibility
The fellowship is open to rising personal fairness (PE) and enterprise capital (VC) fund managers who:

Are actively investing throughout Africa

Have secured preliminary commitments or are at/close to the launch or shut of their first fund

Manage comparatively small, high-potential portfolios
-
Focus on underserved sectors or areas
-
Have lower than USD 50 million in belongings beneath administration
Note: Fund managers with youth (beneath 35 years) in senior management roles are strongly inspired to apply.
