Volunteer Opportunity: Youth Advisory Council Members (July 2025 – June 2026)

The Jane Goodall Institute of Canada (JGIC) is presently in search of passionate younger leaders to hitch its 2025–2026 Youth Advisory Council (YAC). This is a volunteer alternative designed for youth who aspire to make a optimistic impression on individuals, animals, and the atmosphere by means of involvement with a globally acknowledged group.

The YAC brings collectively a various group of devoted and enthusiastic youth to:

  • Shape the programmatic route of JGIC’s Canada Programs
  • Co-design and lead initiatives tackling biodiversity loss, local weather change, and environmental inequity
  • Ensure youth views and lived experiences are central to JGIC’s actions and outreach

What You Can Expect As A Volunteer

  • Lead YAC-wide initiatives
    Self-governed initiatives supported each professionally and financially by JGIC.
  • Provide strategic steering
    Collaborate with JGIC employees to form youth-focused programming.
  • Peer collaboration
    Work with different youth leaders targeted on sustainability, local weather justice, and reconciliation.
  • Travel alternatives
    Possibility of attending summits, conferences, and occasions inside Canada.
  • Join a world alumni community
    Continue connecting with former YAC members after your time period ends.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Ensure youth views are central throughout all JGIC packages, particularly Roots & Shoots
  • Develop concepts for youth campaigns and sources on:
    • Biodiversity loss
    • Climate change
    • Environmental inequity
    • Anti-racism
  • Review and consider A.P.E. (Animals, People, Environment) Fund proposals
  • Provide suggestions on JGIC’s new packages, insurance policies, and initiatives
  • Attend:
    • Monthly on-line conferences (as soon as a month)
    • Sub-committee conferences (as wanted)
  • Participate in quarterly capability constructing {and professional} improvement workshops
  • Amplify R&S youth voices through provincial and nationwide platforms
  • Represent Roots & Shoots and JGIC at related public engagement occasions

Eligibility Criteria For All Volunteers

Applicants should:

  • Be 18 to 30 years previous throughout the full time period (July 2025 – June 2026)
  • Commit to 5–10 hours monthly
    • Monthly conferences shall be held on Tuesdays or Wednesdays from 7–9pm EDT
    • Mid-month conferences could also be scheduled for these unavailable throughout principal periods
    • Executive committee/mission leads could require extra hours
  • Be enthusiastic about the atmosphere, together with matters like:
    • Biodiversity loss
    • Climate change
    • Environmental inequity
    • Anti-racism
    • Wildlife safety
    • Habitat restoration
    • Water/ocean conservation
    • Environmental coverage and planning
    • Environmental justice
    • Traditional and sustainable meals techniques
    • Ethical house and decolonization
  • Be all for touring inside Canada (not obligatory; prices lined by JGIC)
  • Be out there to journey to Neyaashiinigmiing, Ontario for an in-person retreat from September 26–29, 2025
  • Possess robust oral and written communication abilities
  • Be snug presenting instructional data in an attractive method
  • Demonstrate the capacity to work independently and collaboratively
  • Have related lived and/or work expertise aligned with JGIC’s mission
