Ending Violence Against Women and Girls in Africa
Violence against women and girls (VAWG) is a worldwide human rights violation that is aware of no boundaries. It limits the potential of girls and ladies to stay freely and with dignity. Eradicating VAWG is crucial to realizing the UN’s 2030 Agenda and the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
In response, the United Nations (UN) and the European Union (EU) launched the Spotlight Initiative in 2017. This partnership—backed by a €500 million dedication—goals to get rid of all types of VAWG. The Africa Programme focuses on ending sexual and gender-based violence, dangerous practices, and advancing sexual and reproductive well being and rights (SRHR).
The Spotlight Initiative Africa Regional Programme (SIARP) 2.0, led by the UN Development Cooperation Office for Africa (UNDCO) in collaboration with the African Union Commission (AUC), builds on the progress of the primary section. A key part of this work is the re-establishment of the Civil Society Regional Reference Group (CSRRG).
The CSRRG is a mechanism to make sure civil society organizations (CSOs) and youth activists play an lively function in shaping, advising, and holding the Initiative accountable. It helps stronger engagement between civil society, the AUC, Regional Economic Communities (RECs), and the UN.
This group will include as much as 15 various, skilled members from throughout Africa’s 5 areas, serving voluntarily in a private capability.
What Will the CSRRG Do?
The CSRRG will give attention to three most important capabilities:
1. Advisory
Provide strategic steerage to SIARP 2.0, advising the Africa Regional Steering Committee and the Programme Coordination Unit.
2. Advocacy & Partnership
Support the Initiative’s objectives by collaboration and awareness-raising.
3. Accountability

Who Should Apply?
We welcome nominations from people with a demonstrated monitor file in:
- Working with civil society on gender equality, ending VAWG, and selling SRHR
- Advocating for ladies’s and youth rights, human rights, and intersectional inclusion
- Representing various communities, together with these going through a number of layers of discrimination
- Bringing a vary of experience associated to VAWG prevention and response
- Having prior expertise with the Spotlight Initiative is a plus
Selection Process
Nominations might be reviewed by a multi-stakeholder Selection Committee that features representatives from:
- The UN, EU, AUC, and UNDCO
- The Civil Society Global Reference Group
- Independent civil society specialists from Africa’s sub-regions
