Nominations are open for the UNEP Champions of the Earth Award 2025. The Champions of the Earth award honours people and organizations whose actions have a transformative affect on the surroundings. In 2024, UNEP honoured people and organizations engaged on progressive and sustainable options to revive land, improve drought resilience, and fight desertification.

Every yr since 2005, UNEP honours people and organizations engaged on progressive and sustainable options to deal with the triple planetary disaster of local weather change, nature and biodiversity loss, and air pollution and waste. Champions remodel our economies, innovate, lead political change, struggle environmental injustice and defend our pure sources.

Categories

The 2025 award spotlights excellent local weather motion specializing in options on methane, buildings and development, sustainable cooling together with power effectivity, clear air, and forests. Nominate a Champion of the Earth.

Nominations may be made in 4 classes:

• Policy management
• Inspiration and motion
• Entrepreneurial imaginative and prescient
• Science and innovation

Eligibility

• Open to people and organizations engaged on progressive and sustainable options delivering local weather motion.
• Applicants could also be from wherever round the world.

Selection Process

UNEP workers and subject material consultants rigorously choose Champions from a world pool of nominations. The nomination course of is open to everybody, and previous cycles have seen over 2,500 submissions from round the world.

The choice standards are as follows:

• Impact: Have the nominee’s actions resulted in profound environmental good points or demonstrated important potential for replication and scaling?
• Novelty: Has the nominee carried out or achieved one thing new and progressive?
• Influence: How compelling and provoking is the nominee’s story?
