The Digital Democracy Initiative (DDI) at CIVICUS is looking for functions from extremely certified analysis consultants to lead an important study titled “Digital Oligarchy: How Tech Billionaires Are Reshaping Democracy and Civic Space, and Strategies for Civil Society Resistance.”

This consultancy offers a remote-based alternative for consultants to have interaction in groundbreaking analysis on the function of tech billionaires in reshaping digital civic areas, and to generate actionable suggestions for civil society responses.


Eligibility Criteria

Applicants should meet the next standards:

  • Hold a postgraduate diploma in Political Science, International Relations, Law, Technology Policy, Digital Rights, or a associated self-discipline.

  • Demonstrated experience in:

    • Digital governance and platform regulation

    • AI coverage, algorithmic governance, and Big Tech’s political affect

    • Civil society mobilisation in on-line areas

    • Advocacy methods addressing digital rights and censorship

  • Proven expertise in:

    • Conducting in-depth coverage analysis and comparative case evaluation

    • Producing analysis reviews and advocacy briefs

    • Working with CSOs, digital coalitions, and/or regulatory our bodies

  • Fluency in English is required; different languages are an asset.

  • Preferred expertise in:

    • Working with international networks and stakeholders, particularly within the Global South

    • Engaging with digital rights communities, multilateral establishments, and civic tech organisations

Structure & Deliverables:

  • Conduct an in depth literature overview and comparative case research.

  • Analyse the function of tech billionaires in influencing political and civic areas by means of:

  • Assess the affect on CSOs, electoral processes, and democratic engagement.

  • Provide evidence-based strategic suggestions for civil society and policymakers.

Final Outputs:

  • Research Report: Comprehensive evaluation on Big Tech’s affect on democracy and civic area.

  • Advocacy Brief (5–7 pages): Actionable suggestions for CSOs and policymakers.
