Applications at the moment are open for the 2025 UNESCO-Greece Melina Mercouri International Prize. The UNESCO-Greece Melina Mercouri International Prize for the Safeguarding and Management of Cultural Landscapes was created in 1995 to reward excellent examples of motion to safeguard and improve the world’s cultural landscapes. The Prize, generously supported by the Government of Greece, bears the title of Melina Mercouri, former Minister of Culture of Greece and a powerful advocate of built-in conservation.

The US$30,000 Prize is awarded each two years to at least one laureate.

Eligibility Requirements

• Individuals, establishments, different entities, communities or non-governmental organizations (in official partnerships with UNESCO or not) which have made a major contribution to the safeguarding, administration and enhancement of the world’s main cultural landscapes.
  

Selection Criteria

• A self-nomination can’t be thought of;
• Government companies of UNESCO Member States, in session with their National Commissions for UNESCO;
• NGOs in official partnerships with UNESCO;
• International, regional and nationwide skilled, educational and non-governmental organizations lively in the subject of cultural landscapes;
• It shouldn’t be obligatory for a cultural panorama to be inscribed on the World Heritage List to be eligible for the Prize;
