Applications are open for the Eleanor Taylor Bland Crime Fiction Writers of Color Award 2025. This grant is meant to assist the recipient in crime fiction writing and profession improvement actions. The Eleanor Taylor Bland grant is run by Sisters in Crime, a 4000+ member worldwide group of thriller authors, readers, publishers, brokers, booksellers and librarians. Sisters in Crime was based by Sara Paretsky and a bunch of ladies on the 1986 Bouchercon in Baltimore. In 2014 the group declared its mission to members to “promote the ongoing advancement, recognition and professional development of women crime writers.”

- A grant of $2,000 is awarded to the chosen winner.
Eligibility
- If you’ve got revealed two novels OR ten or extra brief tales, you’re ineligible.
- You don’t have to be a member of Sisters in Crime to apply for this grant.
- AI-generated works aren’t eligible.
Application
Here are the three parts of your submission:
- An unpublished work of crime fiction, geared toward readers, from kids’s chapter books via adults. This could also be a brief story or first chapter(s) of a manuscript in-progress of 2,500 to 5,000 phrases.
- A resume or biographical assertion.
- A canopy letter that provides a way of the applicant as an rising author within the style and briefly states how the award cash can be used. (How the cash may be used shouldn’t be a deciding issue within the judges’ determination.)
