Editorial Training Program for Researchers in African Studies – Apply Today!


Are you an early- or mid-career researcher desperate to make a long-lasting impression in tutorial publishing? This is your likelihood to raise your profession, acquire hands-on editorial expertise, and contribute to shaping the way forward for African analysis. African Transport Studies (AFTRAN), in collaboration with the Volvo Research and Educational Foundations’ Mobility & Access in African Cities (MAC) Program, invites you to apply for the Early- and Mid-Career Editorial Training Program (EMET). This initiative is designed to acknowledge and assist distinctive Africa-based researchers, offering them with the talents wanted to step into editorial management roles.

Program Details

AFTRAN will appoint as much as ten members for every EMET time period. The preliminary time period will final two years, with the opportunity of renewal for a second time period if eligibility standards proceed to be met. Outstanding members could also be elevated to AFTRAN Editorial Board membership and really helpful for related roles in different Elsevier journals.

Program Objectives

Participants will have interaction in a spread of actions, together with:

  • Attending journal publication and peer-review coaching periods
  • Conducting opinions for three to 4 submissions to AFTRAN yearly
  • Submitting one to 2 manuscripts to AFTRAN throughout the time period (processed as common submissions)
  • Acting as ambassadors for AFTRAN by selling the journal by way of social media, conferences, and different platforms
  • Attending AFTRAN Editorial Board conferences as requested
  • Assisting with particular points underneath the steering of AFTRAN editors

Eligibility

Eligible members embody students who’ve accomplished a doctoral diploma and are inside ten years of incomes their Ph.D., holding positions equivalent to lecturers, assistant professors, or equal mid-level roles.

Application Process

Qualified early- and mid-career researchers are inspired to submit an application in a single PDF file. The application ought to embody:

  • Name
  • Affiliation (with a hyperlink to the applicant’s webpage)
  • Research areas
  • Reviewing expertise
  • List of publications

Applications must be submitted through e mail to AFTRAN editors at roger.behrens@uct.ac.za and jane.e.summerton@gmail.com by February 28, 2025. The application interval will stay open all through February. All submissions can be reviewed by AFTRAN editors, with candidates receiving a call inside 4 weeks after the deadline. Selected EMET members’ names can be revealed on the AFTRAN Editorial Board webpage.
