Applications are open for the IWMF Anja Niedringhaus Courage in Photojournalism Award 2025. The Anja Niedringhaus Courage in Photojournalism Award was created to honor the life and work of Pulitzer Prize-winning AP photographer and IWMF Courage in Journalism Award winner Anja Niedringhaus (1965-2014), with a beneficiant $1 million reward from the Howard G. Buffett Foundation.

With this Award, the IWMF celebrates the brave work of ladies photojournalists like Anja who encourage us to take motion and higher perceive the world. This brave work manifests in many various types which can embrace however isn’t restricted to battle or frontline reporting.

Award

  • The Award winner will probably be publicly honored, have her work showcased, and obtain a money prize of $20,000.

Eligibility

  • The award is open to ladies, nonbinary and gender nonconforming journalists.
  • The candidate have to be working as a journalist full-time, and journalism have to be their major occupation.
  • Both freelance journalists and people affiliated with media organizations are eligible.

Judging Criteria

  • Quality of pictures
  • Composition of portfolio
  • Storytelling capacity
  • Conditions underneath which the journalist labored
  • Candidate assertion
  • Reflection of Anja Niedringhaus’s values

Application

Each nomination and application should embrace candidate data, work samples made up of a sequence of 12 pictures, and a candidate/nomination assertion. The IWMF will settle for purposes and third-celebration nominations in English till March 14, 2025.
