Position Overviews
We are excited to announce three fellowships for early-career journalists who’re obsessed with local weather reporting:
- Climate News Fellow
- Climate Solutions Fellow
- Indigenous Affairs Fellow
Each fellowship is a full-time, 12-month alternative beginning May 5, 2025, and ending April 30, 2026. Fellows will be a part of our Editorial workforce and work remotely from anyplace within the United States, with alternatives to work out of Grist’s Seattle or New York places of work when circumstances permit.
General Fellowship Benefits

Climate News Fellow
Responsibilities:
- Write 2-3 tales weekly on local weather science, politics, and coverage.
- Report fast takes, newsletters, and in-depth tales.
- Assist with analysis, fact-checking, and copy-editing.
- Pitch and execute at least one function story.
- Contribute to bigger workforce initiatives, together with Grist’s annual “Grist 50” record.
Qualifications:

Climate Solutions Fellow
Responsibilities:
- Write 2-3 solutions-oriented tales weekly specializing in local weather progress and fairness.
- Report on sustainable group transitions and modern local weather options.
- Collaborate on bigger workforce initiatives.
- Contribute to Grist’s newsletters and the “Grist 50” record.
Qualifications:
- Passion for local weather journalism with an emphasis on fairness.
- Strong understanding of solutions-driven storytelling.
- Proven analysis and reporting expertise.
Indigenous Affairs Fellow
Responsibilities:
- Report on the intersections of Indigenous communities and local weather change.
- Cover subjects like foodways, treaty regulation, land use, and the #LandBack motion.
- Write 2-3 tales weekly and contribute to workforce initiatives.
- Assist in producing the “Grist 50” record.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated cultural competency in Indigenous points and local weather reporting.
- Strong writing and reporting abilities with a solutions-oriented focus.
- Knowledge of Indigenous sovereignty, biodiversity, and local weather coverage.
Professional Development for Fellows
- Work carefully with editors for complete suggestions.
