Leiden University’s Institute of Security and Global Affairs (ISGA), part of the Faculty of Governance and Global Affairs, is seeking a full-time postdoctoral researcher for a 36-month position. This role is part of the interdisciplinary Horizon Europe project, “Networks and the Rule of Law: Uncovering Socio-Economic Outcomes” (NET-ROL), under the supervision of Prof. Antoaneta Dimitrova and Dr. Jaroslaw Kantorowicz.

About the NET-ROL Project

Funded by the European Commission’s Horizon Europe programme, the NET-ROL project will commence in spring 2025. It focuses on the role of networks in strengthening or undermining the rule of law and how this affects socio-economic outcomes like growth, inequality, and trust. The project aims to address key questions such as:

  • How do business, political, and citizen networks influence the rule of law during policy-making processes?
  • How do citizens perceive the rule of law, and under what conditions can they effectively support it?
  • What are the socio-economic impacts of a decline in the rule of law?

Key Responsibilities

The postdoctoral researcher will play a crucial role in the project by:

  • Conducting independent research on the causes and consequences of the rule of law decline.
  • Designing and implementing surveys and experiments to gather data on public perception of the rule of law.
  • Analyzing data on the role of networks in shaping rule of law outcomes.
  • Contributing to the production of peer-reviewed articles and other scientific outputs.
  • Participating in communication and dissemination activities, including presenting at conferences and creating blogs or podcasts.
  • Supporting project management, organizing consortium meetings, and contributing to teaching activities.
