IFC Infrastructure Africa (Dakar, Senegal, and Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire)

The International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector investment arm of the World Bank Group, is offering a unique 6-month internship opportunity in its Infrastructure Africa team, based in Dakar, Senegal, and Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

IFC is committed to advancing sustainable private sector investment in developing countries, reducing poverty, and improving livelihoods. A key strategic priority for IFC is the development of infrastructure in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). This internship provides an excellent chance to gain hands-on experience in infrastructure projects across the region and develop expertise in financial analysis, modeling, and project finance within a dynamic international environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

The intern will work closely with investment staff on the development, execution, and monitoring of infrastructure investments in power, transport, telecommunications, water, and waste sectors. Key responsibilities include:

  • Analyzing financial statements and updating financial models.
  • Conducting industry, market, and company research.
  • Preparing KYC (Know-Your-Client) reports for prospective clients.
  • Drafting project-related documents and creating PowerPoint presentations for internal and external audiences.
  • Supporting project processing, from development to portfolio management.
  • Collaborating with colleagues to support new business development.
  • Participating in broader portfolio management activities, including preparing reports, sector studies, trend analyses, and case studies.

Selection Criteria

Ideal candidates will meet the following criteria:

  • Education: Currently enrolled postgraduate students with a bachelor’s degree.
  • Skills: Strong financial, analytical, and modeling skills; proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Languages: Excellent communication skills in English and French.
  • Experience: Prior experience in investment banking, development finance, private equity/infrastructure funds, audit, or strategy consulting is a plus.
  • Attributes: Motivated team player with strong interpersonal skills and a keen interest in IFC’s mission and values.
  • Availability: Able to start the internship in January 2025.
