JRF, SRF, RA Fellowship 2023: Government increases stipend for PhD scholars, check increased stipend here

With effect from January 1, 2023, the Ministry of Education has announced an increase in the monthly stipends for research scholars. For Junior Research Fellows (JRFs) and Senior Research Fellows (SRFs), the stipend has been increased from Rs. 31,000 to Rs. 37,000 and from Rs. 35,000 to Rs. 42,000, respectively. Research Associates I, II, and III now receive higher stipends. (JRF SRF FELLOWSHIP)

2023 PhD Fellowship:

On October 3, the Ministry of Education announced adjustments to the monthly salaries of Research Associates (RAs), SRFs, and JRFs. The salary for research scholars will be enhanced for Junior Research Fellows (JRF), Senior Research Fellows (SRF), and Research Associates – I, II, and III, effective January 01, 2023.

Eligibility FOR JRF SRF FELLOWSHIP:


The upper age limit for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) is 35 years for men as on 1
July of the year of application and 45 years for women. The candidate must have at
least a high-class master’s degree with a second-class bachelor’s degree, or secondclass master’s degree with a first-class bachelor’s degree

“The monthly emoluments of the researchers of the Higher Education Institutes, Ministry of Education, increased with effect from 1st January 2023.

Following this decision, the Government of India is likely to incur an additional expenditure of approximately Rs. 725 crores.

Junior Research Fellows (JRF) now receive a stipend of Rs. 37,000 instead of the prior amount of Rs. 31,000.

  • The stipend for Senior Research Fellows (SRF) has increased to Rs. 42,000 from the previous amount of Rs. 35,000.
  • The stipend for Research Associate I has increased to Rs. 58,000 from Rs. 47,000.
  • The salary for Research Associate II has been raised to Rs. 61,000 from Rs. 49,000.
  • Lastly, the stipend for Research Associate III has increased from Rs. 54,000 to Rs. 67,000.
    For a considerable amount of time, the All India Research Scholars Association (AIRSA) has been advocating for an increase in research scholar salary. It is anticipated that the government’s decision to raise the fellowship award for research scholars will promote excellence in research and innovation inside the nation.
    The government’s decision to boost the fellowship sum has been well received by academics and students. “It’s fantastic. At last, common sense won out!” comments a user on X.
