DEADLINE: DST INSPIRE FELLOWSHIP
An innovation infrastructure must include the creation and development of a human talent pool capable of applying and expanding upon basic scientific ideas. For a career in the basic and natural sciences, an approach designed specifically for India is needed to draw in people with a knack for invention and research. The Department of Science & Technology (DST) has created the novel Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) program to pique young people’s interest in science and help the nation gather the vital resources needed to fortify and broaden the S&T system and R&D base with long-term vision.
The Honourable Prime Minister of India launched the INSPIRE Scheme on December 13, 2008, after the Government of India approved it in November 2008 at a total cost of roughly Rs 1979.25 crores during the 11th Plan Period. The program is still in operation throughout the 12th Plan period, with budgetary support of Rs. 2200 crores.
The three parts of INSPIRE are the Assured Opportunity for Research Careers (AORC), Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE), and Scheme for Early Attraction of Talent (SEATS). The details broken down by component may be found here. Download the INSPIRE brochure at https://online-inspire.gov.in/content/.
(i) The Scheme for Early Attraction of Talent (SEATS) aims to encourage gifted children to pursue science by offering an INSPIRE Award of Rs 5000 to one million young learners between the ages of 10 and 15, ranging from Class VI to Class X standards. Additionally, summer camps are organized for approximately 50,000 science students in Class XI, bringing them together with prominent scientists from around the world to share in the excitement of innovations through an annual INSPIRE Internship.
(ii) By offering scholarships and mentorship, the Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE) seeks to increase the percentage of gifted kids who enroll in science-intensive college programs. The programme provides 10,000 scholarships annually, worth Rs 0.80 lakh, to gifted students between the ages of 17 and 22 who want to pursue natural science bachelor’s and master’s degrees. The primary characteristic of the program is the mentorship help each scholar receives.
(iii) Assured Opportunity for Research Careers (AORC) seeks to draw in, engage, develop, and support a pool of young, gifted scientists in order to bolster the base and foundation of R&D. It is divided into two parts. The first component, the INSPIRE Fellowship, provides 1000 fellowships annually to individuals in the age range of 22 to 27 for the purpose of pursuing doctorates in basic and applied sciences, including engineering and medicine. Under the second component, the INSPIRE Faculty Scheme, 1000 post-doctoral researchers between the ages of 27 and 32 are guaranteed opportunities each year through five-year contractual and tenure-track posts in both the basic and applied sciences.

More about DST INSPIRE FELLOWSHIPS
The Department of Science and Technology (DST) of India runs a scholarship program called the DST INSPIRE Fellowship. The Department of Science and Technology, or DST for short, is an Indian government ministry. Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research is referred to as INSPIRE. The purpose of the INSPIRE program is to inspire and draw gifted youth to seek careers in science and research.
Particularly intended for postgraduate and PhD students is the DST INSPIRE Fellowship. The DST INSPIRE Fellowship has the following salient characteristics and information:
The fellowship is awarded to students who have completed or are pursuing postgraduate degrees in Basic and Natural Sciences (M.Sc. or M.Tech.). Students taking integrated courses, such the M.Sc./M.Tech. (Dual degree), can also take advantage of it.
Selection Procedure: Applicants are chosen for the INSPIRE Fellowship through a competitive exam, and their results are taken into consideration. The purpose of the test is to evaluate the applicant’s capacity for scientific inquiry.
Duration: The fellowship typically supports students during their postgraduate and doctoral studies for a predetermined amount of time.
Financial Assistance: DST INSPIRE Fellowship recipients are provided with financial assistance to meet their educational costs, which includes tuition, a contingency grant, and a fellowship amount.
Research Opportunities: The fellowship offers students chances to participate in research projects and activities in addition to financial support, which helps them develop a research-oriented mindset.
Research Areas: The fellowship provides funding for studies in the physical, chemical, biological, mathematics, earth, and atmospheric sciences, among other topics.
