Applications for NSFAS 2024 are now officially available! | The deadline for applications is January 31, 2024.

Officials from NSFAS will never call or ask you for your password!

All applicants and beneficiaries are strongly encouraged to constantly protect their personal data.

Call the Vuvuzela hotline at 0860 247 653, go online at www.thehotline.co.za, or send an SMS message to 30916 to request a callback in the event of any fraud or suspicious behavior.

Who can receive funding?

If you are a citizen of South Africa, intend to enroll in school in 2024, or if you are enrolled in a public university or TVET college and you match the following criteria, you are eligible for an NSFAS bursary:

  • Citizens or long-term inhabitants of South Africa
  • Recipients of SASSA grants
  • Candidates whose annual gross household income combined is not greater than R350 000
  • individuals with disabilities whose annual gross family income is not greater than R600,000.
  • Both a cell phone number and email address are required.

Who doesn’t need to apply?

  • Students who have previously applied for and been awarded financing, are not yet finished with their current degree, and have no intention of switching from one industry to another (TVET College to University or vice versa).
  • As long as they pass their modules and fulfill the academic criteria, they will receive automatic funding for the whole time they are in school.
If your financing application is approved, NSFAS will pay for the following expenses:
  • Accommodation
  • Subsistence allowance
  • allowance for educational materials
  • allowance for personal care
In the event that you attend the University of South Africa (UNISA), you will be compensated for:
  • Books for tuition (depending on the quantity of modules enrolled)
  • allowance for personal care

Should you be a qualified student with a disability, you will be compensated for:

  • Helpful Technology
  • Dinners
  • Transportation for Tuition
  • Education Human Assistance Housing

As of 2023, TVET College allowances for students with disabilities, excluding human support, will be directly funded by the NSFAS.

How should one apply?

Use this link to register for a myNSFAS account: https://my.nsfas.org.za/ or get the NSFAS App from the App Store or Google Play. Your username will be your ID number.

  • Apply right away:

To amend your personal information and upload the supporting documents for your application, click the “Apply” option.
