Synopsis of Position:

  • As part of the evaluation, review, and revision processes for manuscripts, the Senior Editor reads submissions, finds and recruits authors and reviewers, assesses review comments, and collaborates with authors from a variety of backgrounds to help them improve their manuscripts while adhering to editorial guidelines.
  • In order to effectively contribute to health policy, the Senior Editor should possess domain-specific knowledge in areas such as global health, health equity, public health, health law, health economics, medicine, or other clinical specialties. If needed, they should also be able to acquire new domain-specific knowledge. Additionally, the senior editor ought to have previous background managing intricate projects.
  • Along with working with other editorial, communications, and business staff members, the senior editor completes other editing, writing, and content production tasks as assigned (such as podcasts). The senior editor also offers support when needed to promote journal content, events/briefings, and activities, like mentoring through sponsored fellowship programs.

Primary Accountabilities:

  • Examine submissions, choose and extend invitations to colleagues for feedback on designated works; peruse and assess these remarks; compose memoranda enumerating review results; and suggest publications.
  • Oversee the assigned papers’ review process, keep an eye on due dates, and stay in touch with reviewers at all times.
  • Examine manuscripts for correctness, clarity, and compliance with editorial guidelines. Communicate with authors during the revision process, offering advice and suggestions on how to write, taking into account insightful criticism from the review process, and following the guidelines set forth by the editors on length, readability, abstract, exhibits, and endnotes.
  • With the use of a manuscript management system, email, and phone conversations, keep track of author deadlines, stay in touch with authors, and respond to their questions about manuscripts, among other things.
  • Examine updated papers, uphold style specifications, and carefully edit texts to get papers ready for printing.
  • When required, conduct research and write assignments such as People and Places, Entry Point, and brief book evaluations.

Attend editorial sessions and participate.

  • By reading pertinent news service summaries, news stories, books, journals, conferences, and meetings, you can stay up to date on health policy.
  • Increase your network of contacts in the field by interacting over the phone, collaborating with writers and editors, and going to conferences.
  • Compliance: tries to educate himself or herself about the work environment’s compliance requirements and sets a good example as a leader to guarantee that compliance is the first priority in all interactions. Make sure that everything you do for yourself and the other team members complies with all applicable laws, rules, and policies.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • A bachelor’s degree is necessary.
  • five or more years of work experience.
  • shown interest in social policy, health care, and the sciences.

  • Proven capacity for successful communication with members of the academic and policy communities across a wide range of disciplines.
