In collaboration with the Ministry of ICT & Innovation, Andela Rwanda offers a nine-month career accelerator programme called the Andela Technical Leadership Programme. The program’s goal is to equip you and other Rwandan citizens with the necessary software engineering abilities to become elite engineers. Additionally, it combines training in soft skills with technical knowledge to enable you to succeed in any workplace, particularly while collaborating with remote teams.

Following a successful nine-month programme, you will:

  • Acquire the professional and technical skills that the global market requires.
  • Acquire the technical knowledge of JavaScript required to begin working as a Junior FullStack Developer.
  • Gain access to Andela’s technical mentorship network.
  • Get a head start on being employable as a software engineer in the tech sector of Africa.
  • You will gain the professional and technical expertise required to excel as a software developer with the best engineering teams in the world through rigorous study.

Eligibility

Candidate ought to be:

  • Citizens of Rwanda.
  • At least eighteen years old.
  • Willing to dedicate a minimum of 6 hours daily to this programme; if you are a university student, you must be in your last year of study. We especially encourage recent university graduates to apply.
  • Possess the fundamentals of HTML, CSS, and JS.
  • Able to speak and understand English.

COURSE WORK

Phase 1: Fundamental ideas

  • Candidates who pass the examinations will receive an invitation to a 10-week boot camp. In addition to providing a strong foundation in web development and the teamwork skills necessary for success in the project work phase, this phase will assist candidates in understanding their career aspirations. By independently developing a capstone project using web technologies like HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript, this will be accomplished.

Phase 2: Project teamwork

Following a successful 10-week boot camp, participants will move on to a 14-week active development phase where they will learn the following technical skills:

  • An open-source SQL database is called PostgreSQL.
  • Express JS is a simple, quick, and opinionless Node.js web framework.
  • Based on the V8 JavaScript Engine in Chrome, Node JS is an open-source, cross-platform JavaScript runtime.
  • Docker is an independent container platform that makes it easy for businesses to create, launch, and distribute any kind of application from any location.

Front-end

  • Related frontend technologies that mostly employ React/Redux JS, an effective and adaptable JavaScript user interface library.
    Phase Three: Training
  • During the program’s 14-week apprenticeship phase, trainees work on actual products with real users and integrate into a distributed team.

THE FORMATION PROCEDURE

Step 1: Applying online

  • Complete the online application found here. In order to get ready for the next technical evaluation, please consult the Curriculum.

Step 2: Evaluations of candidates

  • After submitting your application, please take this Qualified sample test to become acquainted with the test platform and prepare for the technical evaluation. The technical assessment is required and will be used to gauge your level of understanding of the material you have studied.
  • An invitation to participate in the Qualified technical evaluation will be sent to you.
  • To assess your fluency, you will also be asked to take written and spoken English proficiency exams.

Phase 3: Conversations

  • Those applicants who are selected for interview and who pass both exams will have their technical proficiency, communication abilities, and fluency in English evaluated.

Programme Schedule: November 17, 2023; Application Deadline: Cohort 30

  • Interviews and entry exams will take place between November 17 and December 8, 2023.
  • Key ideas: December 11, 2024, to March 1, 2024
  • Group project: March 4, 2024 – June 14, 2024
  • Apprenticeship: July 1st, 2024–September 20th, 2024
