In order to promote gender equity and justice in 2024, the international charity Rise Up will choose a number of local Nigerian leaders in civil society to enrol in our Leadership and Advocacy Accelerator training programme.

Applications are being accepted from visionary leaders in the states of Abuja Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, and Kaduna, who are between the ages of 18 and 60. Newly chosen Nigerian leaders will become part of our network of more than 800 leaders that have successfully pushed for more than 185 enhanced and new laws and policies that have an influence on 160 million people worldwide. Rise Up will support initiatives centred on economic opportunity, such as promoting financial inclusion for women and girls through access to credit, job and leadership training, land rights and ownership, and inheritance rights. Rise Up will competitively award grants to participating leaders and their organisations.

Eligibility

The following requirements must be fulfilled by qualified applicants:

  • Leaders in the civil society who are between the ages of 18 and 60.
  • Currently employed in Nasarawa State, Kaduna State, or Abuja Federal Capital Territory.
  • Own a personal stake in and a dedication to advancing gender justice generally in the three areas of health, education, and economic opportunity for women, girls, and persons who identify as gender nonconforming.
  • Serve as a representative for or closely collaborate with women and girls with disabilities, members of racial and/or religious minorities, members of socially and economically marginalised communities, and other historically underprivileged groups.
  • The opportunity to take part in a live training session from March 3–9, 2024, with some pre- and post-workshop virtual sessions. Rise Up will pay for all program-related expenses, such as travel, housing, meals, supplies, and internet usage.
  • Presently hold a position of administration or coordination and some degree of decision-making authority at a government, media, civil society, or nonprofit organisation.
  • Get the go-ahead from the leadership of your organisation to attend Rise Up’s Leadership and Advocacy Accelerator programme.
  • Rise Up mandates that organisations be properly registered in the nation and configured to accept foreign funding in order for them to be eligible for a grant. A fiscal sponsor or another financial institution may sponsor an entity that is not registered.
  • Note: This programme does not allow grants to be given to government organisations.
  • Competent in both written and spoken English

Selection Standards

  • Rise Up will choose 25 forward-thinking leaders to join its efforts to improve access to economic, health, and educational opportunities after a competitive selection process.
  • Rise Up has created a cutting-edge hybrid model that combines in-person and virtual learning, along with project funding, technical assistance, and intensive capacity building to enable leaders to implement advocacy strategies that improve the health, education, and economic opportunities of women, girls, and gender nonconforming individuals in Nigeria.
