Rising leaders from all over the world are invited to apply for the seventh cohort of the Obama Foundation Scholars Programme at Columbia University, which is a part of Columbia World Projects and Columbia Global. The programme is an intensive nine-month programme that combines academic, skill-based, and experiential learning.

Columbia University’s Obama Foundation Scholars Programme brings together up-and-coming global leaders who have shown a dedication to solving problems in their local communities, nations, and regions. Obama Foundation Scholars have the chance to expand their knowledge and abilities throughout the course of an academic year, as well as create new networks and capacities that will accelerate their influence back home. Both current and past Scholars are accomplished practitioners in a variety of sectors, including as education, community and civic engagement, and sustainable development, and they come from the United States and other countries.
Eligibility
Columbia University’s Obama Foundation Scholars Programme seeks out emerging leaders who fit the following requirements, both domestically and internationally:
- Are up-and-coming leaders who are currently experiencing a “breakthrough moment” in their careers after making significant contributions to their field
- Possess a track record of service and leadership in a community, region, or nation, as well as a commitment to return to these communities after the programme is over and use their newly acquired knowledge, abilities, and networks there going forward for the good of these communities.
- Are proficient in spoken, written, and listener English; Possess the capacity and desire to actively influence their community’s future
- Possess a track record of demonstrating a dedication to diversity, a focus on the community, hope, courage, inventiveness, strategy, accountability, integrity, and resilience.
- Note that applicants who have not yet matriculated at Columbia University will be given priority. The fellowship is a residential, full-time programme at Columbia that cannot be pursued concurrently with an academic programme leading to a degree.
Benefits

- A fully equipped studio flat close to Columbia University accessible by foot
- Whole cost of tuition and fees for a maximum of four Columbia University courses
- For the length of the programme, basic health, dental, and life insurance will be provided in New York City.
- Travel by air to and from the country of origin and any program-related events

- A chronological summary of your work experience, educational background, and other noteworthy accomplishments—such as honours, publications, or other distinctions—should be included in your curriculum vitae or resume.
- Individual video statement
The candidate and their work should be introduced to the selection committee in a brief video—no more than three minutes—in the personal video statement. The video statement will be uploaded by applicants to a website that hosts videos, such as Vimeo or YouTube, and a link to the film will be included in the online application.
