In light of this, the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) is encouraging young people to apply for the second iteration of the United Nations Youth Champions for Disarmament Training Programme, an innovative learning initiative designed to equip young people to advocate for disarmament in their local communities. UNODA is making this call with kind financial support from the German government.
Programme Specifics
- A group of fifteen youths will be chosen to take part in the training program’s second edition, which will have a regional emphasis. To be eligible for the training programme, applicants must be at least 18 years old and no older than 24 on the application deadline.
- The training programme will bring together a geographically diverse group of young disarmament advocates through this regional approach, allowing them to connect with the global disarmament discourse while sharing their unique regional perspectives from Africa and Europe, Asia and the Pacific, and the Americas and the Caribbean. Furthermore, the training curriculum incorporates three job possibilities with UNODA for young professionals in order to facilitate its implementation at regional levels. In due course, these vacancies will be disclosed.
- The general principles of disarmament, non-proliferation, and arms control, as well as how they relate to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, will be taught to the fifteen United Nations Youth Champions for Disarmament who have been chosen. Following the completion of the introductory courses, UNODA will arrange regular interactions with specialists from the diplomatic field, think tanks, and civil society organisations. These exchanges will be followed by regional workshops and youth forums. The 15 Youth Champions will be asked to share their viewpoints at an event at the UN Headquarters in New York after the training.
