15 climate storytellers are needed by the CNN Academy to participate in the ground-breaking programme, which is fully sponsored. It’s now possible to apply. The Rockefeller Foundation-sponsored CNN Academy content.

Extreme weather, debilitating droughts, and devastating heatwaves affect every region of the world. However, the majority of these devastating effects fall on the Global South. CNN Academy and The Rockefeller Foundation are working together in a ground-breaking way to take action.

We are looking for 15 passionate young journalists from the Global South who are committed to bringing attention to the severe impacts of the climate issue in their own nations.

Participants will create an engaging short documentary highlighting the effects of the climate catastrophe at the program’s conclusion. The participants will exclusively shoot and edit the documentaries.

eligibility criteria

The following requirements must be met by candidates in order to be qualified for this media training opportunity:

  • Reside and/or work in one of the developing nations of Africa, Asia, or any country in Latin America and the Caribbean that is considered to be part of the Global South.
  • Early on in their careers, identify as a content creator, journalist, or storyteller.
  • Possess a portfolio of work that demonstrates your expertise in climate change storytelling and your clear interest in it.
  • Able to communicate clearly and fluently in both written and spoken English.
  • Show that you’re committed to actively participate throughout the full training process and putting the new skills you’ve learned to use on your reporting tasks.
  • Be prepared to fly to Abu Dhabi from December 3 through December 10 for the CNN Academy Climate Storytelling Simulation.

Benefits

  • Selected participants will get complete sponsorship to attend the media training programme, which covers lodging, food throughout the programme, training materials, and travel costs (if required).
  • Participants will also be given a CNN Academy Certificate of Completion once the session is over.
  • The contestants’ final documentary will be shown on CNN or a CNN Academy platform.

APPLICATIONS

  • Interested candidates are encouraged to apply via our interactive videoform or a standard form that includes the following details:
  • A succinct description of their history, experience, and reasons for wanting to take part in the training programme.
  • An explanation of how the training would help them advance professionally and improve local climate reporting. Contact information, including a phone number and email address.
  • If applicable, a portfolio of prior reporting work that includes references to pieces that have been published, videos, or other pertinent materials.
  • Verification of your ability to attend the entire training session on the designated days.

Choice Process

  • The merits of each proposal will be determined by the applicant’s background, level of commitment to climate reporting, and potential effects of programme participation on their work.
  • After reviewing the applications, a panel of specialists in climate communication will choose 15 applicants who best fit the initiative’s goals.
