  • A track record of community service and leadership.
  • A proven dedication to having a significant impact on the climate crisis.
  • Age as of September 1, 2024, is 35 or younger.
  • Not having a postgraduate degree that hasn’t already been earned or being enrolled at another college while receiving a Mastercard Foundation Scholarship.

Master’s Degree Programmes Online

  • International Development (Masters path only): This course examines current global challenges, such as sustainability and climate change. It looks at the evolution of international development and the methods used to solve issues like climate change and others.
  • This programme, which is available as a master’s or diploma, focuses on food security and nutrition as well as how they relate to sustainable development, climate change, and population increase worldwide.

  • Students who take the Carbon Management (Masters-only option) course will be prepared to address climate change from a range of angles, including economic, ecological, and business-related ones.

  • Focuses on resource efficiency, lowering greenhouse gas emissions, sustainable consumption, and other elements essential to sustainability. Circular Economy (Masters or Diploma).
  • Addressing the connections between land, human development, and sustainability, Sustainable Lands and Cities (Master’s or Diploma) provides solutions for sustainable communities.
  • Positions climate change as a social injustice and examines the intersection of climate justice, sustainable development, and community action (Masters or Diploma).
  • Postgraduate Degrees Online

Postgraduate degrees are more vocational in nature and are intended for people who are thinking about changing their careers.

Candidates having either an undergraduate or graduate degree from a university in Sub-Saharan Africa are eligible to apply, as long as they will complete either degree by September 2023 and submit their diplomas and transcripts by December 7th.

ONLY the following curricula are eligible for the scholarship, which is intended to support two years of part-time online study:

  • Single Health
  • Nutrition and Food Security Worldwide
  • Worldwide Challenges
  • Community Action and Social Justice
  • cyclical economy
  • Sustainable Cities and Land
  • the application cycle 2023/24
  • 23 October 2023, 10:00 a.m. UKopen applications
  • 1 December 2023, 5 p.m. UKCandidates must have finished the eligibility assessment and declaration steps as well as registration on the scholarship application website.
  • 7 December 2023, 5 p.m. UKSubmissions end
  • Shortlisting for Online Distance Learners (ODL) interviews starts in early February 2024, and both successful and unsuccessful candidates will be contacted.
  • ODL interviews happen in the middle to end of February 2024.
  • Results of ODL Interviews will be made public by mid-March.
  • March – July 2024assistance offered throughout the admissions process
  • Start of the academic year is September 2024.

Selection Process

The following criteria form the basis of the applicant selection process:

  • Academic standing of applicants who are admitted to the University of Edinburgh
  • Experience as a transformational leader and community service
  • Application quality in keeping with the Scholars Program’s climate justice concept.
  • Potential effects on the applicant’s home country’s growth.
  • Applicants who have experienced severe obstacles to education (social, financial, personal, practical, or medical in nature).

Application

  • Academic eligibility is required in order to be admitted to the University of Edinburgh. Before submitting an application to the university, candidates must first apply for this scholarship.
  • Applications sent outside of the online application system will not be accepted by the Scholars Programme.
