By designing, implementing, and testing software applications utilising the best software development technologies, the Shoprite Software Engineering Apprentice will assist the software development teams in creating cutting-edge software and systems for the Shoprite Group.

While being challenged and given amazing growth opportunities in a customer-facing, quick-paced, agile environment, this role will work closely with the software development team to provide support in the development, deployment, and maintenance of assigned software solutions for the organisation. It will also participate in code reviews and other software development processes.
In this regard, our Software Development team is seeking to hire a Software Engineering Apprentice who has just received a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or who is in the final year of obtaining an equivalent qualification and is eager to advance their career in software development. You will be exposed to a variety of software development practises and technologies while supporting the software development team.
Qualifications
- Grade 12 diploma.
- Computer science, software/computer engineering, mathematics, information technology, or a related subject diploma or degree, or last year of completion of the applicable qualification
Experience
- Exposure to algorithms, relational databases (such as SQL and MySQL), and distributed, multi-tiered systems
- The ability to programme in one or more high-level languages, such as C#, Java, Python, Golang, Python, C, C++, PHP, etc.
- Exposure to OOP and SOLID design or programming concepts.
- Familiarity with agile approaches, or software development technologies like Git, JIRA,
- Exposure to Microsoft operating systems, the Linux toolkit, and/or scripting languages like Bash or PowerShell
- An understanding of JavaScript frameworks, such as Angular, React, Vue.js, etc.
- An example of a cloud environment is AWS, Azure, or GCP.
Information and Skills
- Basic knowledge of important terms and information relating to computers and other hardware, programming languages, business operating systems, web or database systems, network hardware and software, IT security, and other IT system technologies is required for computer systems smart.
- High degree of internal motivation and desire to set, fulfil, and surpass objectives and standards.
- Interested in learning new things – proactively seeks out new areas for learning, takes advantage of educational opportunities, and actively applies newly acquired information and skills at work.
