Job Specifications

  • In order to assist newly arrived adult refugees and immigrants who have left persecution in their home country and are rebuilding their lives in New Jersey, the IRC in New Jersey is looking for interns and volunteers. The intern/volunteer will support computer lab inventory, provide instructions for digital literacy workshops, and help clients with internet services applications in addition to helping the Education and Learning manager and Adult Education Coordinator.

Accountabilities:

  • Keep an eye on the computer lab and the tech equipment inventory.
  • Configure fresh laptops for customers.
  • Assist customers with online apps and resolve problems with internet service providers.
  • Use the given curriculum to lead basic digital literacy courses for small to large groups.
  • Create individualized lesson plans for student-centered learning activities based on the curriculum that is supplied.
  • Establish a warm atmosphere that encourages learning and community among program participants as they engage with a varied population.
  • Maintain attendance records and efficiently prepare teaching resources
  • Requirements Have prior experience instructing adults in groups in ESOL/EFL.
  • experience teaching adults from a range of backgrounds, including those with little formal education and/or low reading proficiency.
  • Outstanding classroom management abilities and self-assurance in leading both big and small groups.
  • Capacity to function both individually and collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced setting.
  • dependable, accountable, and committed to the role to the session’s conclusion.
  • Although not necessary, fluency in Arabic, Spanish, Pashto, Dari, Haitian Creole, or Swahili is a plus.
