The internship programme at Mongabay.org largely entails writing environmental news articles for our affiliated news website, Mongabay.com. Our interns will get the chance to hone their writing abilities and see their news articles published on our well-known website, which receives more than two million unique visitors each month from across the world.

Over the course of their six-month commitment, our interns will compose about six news items on various conservation and environmental issues. One of our editors will give our interns topics to write about. The Mongabay interns will collaborate closely with the site’s journalists, receive writing advice and criticism on their news pieces before they are published, gain a deeper understanding of the site’s journalism initiatives, and receive one-on-one training and mentoring from the editors who supervise the fellow.

Application

Submission of applications is required in English. The following papers must be submitted by applicants, and it is highly advised that you have them ready before starting the application procedure:

  • Resume
  • Request letter
  • Explain your interest and the ideals and abilities you can bring to Mongabay.
  • Questions about motivation (included in the application form)
  • Send a writing sample (600 words maximum) taken from a journal entry or blog post.
  • Alternatively, you can select one of the following three articles to finish for your writing sample.
  • Beyond the figures In and around Ethiopia’s Gambella National Park, there have been conflicts between lions (Panthera leo) and people.
  • Insights from central Togo on changes in the West African forest-savanna mosaic
  • A newly discovered, distinctive Fairy Lantern from Borneo called Thismia kelabitiana (Thismiaceae) may be at danger from industrial logging
  • Optional: Include one more (maximum of 600 words) piece of your own writing.
  • November 28, 2023 (11:00 a.m. EST, New York time), is the application deadline. Email-based applications and/or submissions sent after the deadline are not accepted.
