Synopsis OF THE POSITION’S FUNCTIONS

  • The Intern will carry out duties that assist in the development of strategies for safeguarding and protecting the Organization’s interests in pursuit of its goals and objectives under the general direction and authority of the Director of the Division of Internal Oversight Services and the supervision of the Heads of Audit/Investigation/Evaluation Offices.
  • The team responsible for audits, investigations, and evaluations will closely collaborate with the intern. He or she will uphold the highest standards of integrity in a client-focused manner and serve as an example of UNESCO’s objectives and values. The intern will make sure that he or she complies with the Division’s efforts to uphold professionalism, responsibility, and a culture of continuous learning.
  • The activities will change based on the assignment’s criteria. The Agreement will include specific terms of reference and learning objectives.
  • Specifically, the incumbent may carry out the following tasks in accordance with each team’s unique demands.

DUTIES

Verify

  • Assist with the audit of a subset of the information technology systems, field offices, and headquarters operations by collaborating closely with the audit team.
  • help compile audit evidence so that the study and audit plans can be created.
  • Help the team as it examines the assets, documents, and records.
  • aid in the analysis of other and financial data.
  • Participate in the documentation of audit results and the writing of audit report sections.
  • Participate in the creation of internal procedures, instruments, and methods to guarantee superior auditing practices.
  • Help with the implementation of audit recommendations, the follow-up on management answers, and the efficient and timely planning, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Carry out any additional duties that the Director or the Head of Internal Audit assigns you.

  • Assist the investigative function in evaluating claims of wrongdoing and anomalies (such as fraud, corruption, mishandling, or harassment).

  • Help in the drafting of correspondence and documentation pertaining to cases that are being investigated, such as witness statements, investigation reports, investigation plans, closure reports, and other documents.
  • help in interviewing suspects, complainants, or witnesses.
  • Help in the identification, gathering, and analysis of possible evidence, including conducting forensic reviews and open-source research.
  • Help ensure that all evidence citations in investigative reports and other documents are correct and comprehensive by offering editing and review assistance.
  • carry out any additional duties that the Director or the Head of Investigations assigns you.

Assessment

  • Assist the Evaluation function in evaluating the performance, coherence, sustainability, impact, efficacy, efficiency, and relevance of UNESCO programs and initiatives.
  • Help the Office with data collection, analysis, and presentation of evaluation findings in various formats (reports, briefings, presentations, etc.) as part of corporate reviews of UNESCO’s programs and thematic areas.
  • Provide technical support for ongoing evaluations being administered by other UNESCO bodies and communicate with Evaluation Focal Points to guarantee adherence to UNESCO’s Evaluation Policy in order to support decentralized evaluations.
  • Create visually appealing reports, astute information products, and other communication materials to aid in the distribution of assessment results and suggestions.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

AGE

  • To apply, you have to be at least twenty years old.

Academic credentials:

While you were applying for the internship program:

  • A graduate program is what you are presently enrolled in (Master’s degree, PhD, or equivalent, second university degree or above).
  • Twelve months before the internship began, you received your Master’s or PhD (or second degree as stated above) in recent years.
  • Please be aware that applicants who are not enrolled in graduate programs but who have finished their full-time bachelor’s degree are not eligible to apply.
  • Candidates for technical/professional or secretarial/assistant positions must be enrolled in specialized technical/professional institutions or secretarial schools, and they must be in their final year of study or have just graduated (within the last 12 months) from their respective institutions.

Linguistics:

  • You should speak and write English or French with great proficiency. Working proficiency in the other language, either French or English, is advantageous and can even be necessary for assistantships and internships in secretarial duties at Headquarters.
  • Computer skills: You must possess a thorough understanding of office software and computer systems.

Cooperative person:

  • It should be easy for you to operate in a team and adjust to a global workplace.

Communication abilities:

  • You ought to have excellent communication and people abilities.
