Requirements
- The programme is intended for Ph.D. candidates who are working on a topic that is compatible with ongoing research at IIASA and who want to examine the policy consequences of their work (preferably, roughly two years before completing their Ph.D.).
- Participants will work in a special interdisciplinary and international research environment under the direct mentorship of a seasoned IIASA scientist. As the first step towards writing a journal article that can be published, they will generate a paper and have the chance to network with other members of the institute’s global network.
- Candidates have a choice of up to two programmes. Before making a choice, we strongly advise you to thoroughly read through all of the programme details.
- All applicants are welcome, however IIASA gives priority to those who are nationals or residents of nations who are National Member Organisations (NMO) members.
- The YSSP is only available for one summer (although you may apply more than once), and you must be present at the institute the entire time (i.e., no fieldwork or working remotely).
Funding
- The majority of National Member Organisations (NMOs) offer funding to support young scientists’ participation in the YSSP, whether they are domestic students or international students studying there.
- Notification of funding will be given to all candidates who were chosen successfully soon following the evaluation process.
- Typically, the programme runs from June 1 to August 31. Days may vary depending on weekends and holidays.
