Tasks and Responsibilities
UNEP is seeking a consultant with experience in user experience design who is based on human-centered design principles to identify use cases, create user journeys, and deliver click-through demos for end user validation in order to accomplish this goal.
- The consultant will collaborate with various stakeholders inside and outside of UNEP and report to the Chief Digital Officer within the Digital Transformation Team.
- Evaluate feedback from end-user consultations based on human-centered design processes as a member of the Digital Transformation Team in order to validate use cases for the use of environmental data to inform particular policy decisions at the global, national, or local level. Make that the identified use cases are sustainable for the company and the end users, as well as practicable, desirable, and viable. Make sure the organization can implement and communicate the use cases successfully.
- To develop a user path for the use case based on short profiles and journey maps that show the wants and habits of the target market. Support the journey’s testing and validation with a small group of potential users.
- Assist the Digital Transformation Team in conducting a heuristic evaluation and expert analysis of current platforms, and provide a report on the results and recommendations.
- Create and implement a click-through demo and mock-up for the use case in an app emulator. In order to uncover user pain spots and potential improvement areas, support doing usability testing and heuristic evaluations. Validate the mock-ups and refine them depending on user feedback. Write a product definition for the finished app based on the input you’ve gotten so far and the final, validated demo. Give UNEP suggestions and directives for the application and dissemination of the developed use cases.
qualifications and unique abilities
- It is necessary to have a bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields: computer science, engineering, interaction design, human-computer interaction (HCI), graphic design, psychology, or a related discipline.
- It would be ideal to have a master’s degree in a relevant discipline or more specialized credentials, such as Certified UX Professional (CUXP) or User Experience Design Professional (UXDP) from reputable organizations like the Nielsen Norman Group, the Interaction Design Foundation, or other business associations.
- It is necessary to have expertise in UX design principles, processes, and best practices, as well as at least twelve years of experience. User research, information architecture, interaction design, graphic design, prototyping, and usability testing are all areas in which this author is skilled.
- A major asset is prior experience assisting organizations in developing a digital vision, strategy, high level concepts, designs, and prototypes based on human-centered design and a thorough grasp of end user wants and objectives. Depending on the demands of the position, proficiency in appropriate design tools like Sketch, Figma, Adobe XD, or other UX design applications, as well as a solid grasp of front-end development technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, may be necessary.
- A senior UX designer should have a solid portfolio of their prior work that showcases their aptitude for solving challenging UX problems, coming up with original solutions, and providing remarkable user experiences.
Languages
- The working languages of the United Nations Secretariat are English and French. English proficiency in both oral and written forms is necessary for the consultancy. It would be ideal to know another UN language.
