A SHORT SUMMARY OF THE POSITION’S FUNCTIONS
- The goal of Education Sector is to mobilize people worldwide in support of education’s future. While keeping two priorities, Africa and gender, in mind, it provides global and regional leadership to ensuring that every child, youth, and adult has access to high-quality education throughout their lives.
- By uniting stakeholders behind the ambitious Education 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, and in particular, the goals established by Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), UNESCO has the potential to catalyze change in education. The Education 2030 Framework for Action serves as a road map for the actions and activities of the education sector.
- The Division for Communications and Public Engagement is in charge of managing UNESCO’s larger external communications; this is not the responsibility of the internship post.
- The Education Sector’s focus areas span educational development from early childhood to higher education and beyond. Some of the subjects covered by this sector include (but are not limited to):

Teacher Training
- The Intern will have the chance to study and assist in completing the overall purpose of the Education Sector/Program.
- The intern will be chosen based on their area of expertise and the demands of the industry.
- Depending on the demands of the assignment, different activities will be undertaken.
- The contract will include specific Terms of Reference and learning objectives.
- The intern will work out of the world’s Category I Institutes, Field Offices, and UNESCO Headquarters.
- According to the demands/needs of each team, the work given to interns falls into one or more of the following categories.
- Support for Programs and Projects:
- Be a part of creating and reviewing project documents. Make notes and technical annex preparations.
- Draft conceptual frameworks or concept notes for novel work areas or development difficulties.
- Data gathering, management, and analysis.
- Contribute to the creation or preparation of documents, working papers, conceptual framework/concept notes, or notes on development difficulties, according to your field of expertise.
- Help in the technical development of new interventions or projects.
- Managing knowledge through research:
- Conduct targeted research and analysis to develop parts or segments of work deliverables, such as articles, documents, and project proposals, that are clearly defined.
- Participate in the creation of materials for advocacy and outreach, information and communication products, and other items linked to your line of work.
- Attend conferences and seminars.
Partnerships:
- Analyze and gather background information for potential collaborations, fundraising opportunities, and events. Set arrange meetings, tours, briefings, and other similar events to aid in joint efforts.
- liaise and establish networks with scholars, other international organizations, member country Delegations, and officials in national administrations.
Operations Assistance:
- In conjunction with other staff members, provide administrative and logistical support for setting up and running conferences, workshops, and other events.
- Provide assistance with the creation of specified budgets, financial records, accounting records, and project documentation and evaluation.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Age:
- To apply, you must be at least 20 years old.
Academic credentials:
- When you submitted your application for the internship program:
- You have a graduate program that you are presently enrolled in (Master’s, PhD, or equivalent, second university degree or above).
- 12 months before the internship begins, you received your Master’s or PhD (or second degree as described above) from an accredited institution.
- studied subjects that fall under the purview of UNESCO (such as education, culture, science, communication, and the social sciences), or studied subjects that serve UNESCO’s mission, such law, human resources, management, and international relations.
- own a solid track record as evidenced by most recent credentials or records from their university.
- Please be aware that individuals who have successfully finished a full-time bachelor’s degree but are not currently enrolled in a graduate program are ineligible to apply.
Languages:
- You should have a strong grasp of either English or French in both written and spoken form. An advantage is having a basic understanding of the other language (either English or French). Depending on the duty station, there may be different additional language requirements.
- You must have a thorough understanding of computer systems and office-related software.

PRODUCTS AND ENTITIES
- Interns are not paid by UNESCO. No payment, either monetary or otherwise, is made for internship duties.
- During their internship, interns are entitled to 2.5 days of leave every month.
Selection and hiring procedure
Each year, January and July are the open months for the UNESCO Internships Program. Candidates must submit an application for the position that falls under their personal area of competence. Successful applicants will remain in the intern talent pool where they will continue to be evaluated and chosen by the appropriate hiring managers. The application will remain active for six months. The appropriate recruiting manager will get in touch with candidates directly after they’ve been chosen. When the new internship openings are announced, those who were not chosen for an internship in the current cycle will need to reapply to the internship program.
ALWAYS REMEMBER
- Before completing the application form, have your motivation letter and resume ready. You have one hour to complete the procedure.
- Verify that your contact information is still current after six months.
- Only English or French may be used when applying.
- If your documents are not in French or English, kindly provide an unofficial translation into one of those languages.
- Interns are not paid by UNESCO. No payment, either monetary or otherwise, is made for internship duties.
- There is no assurance of placement, even if you are qualified. We are unable to fill all the applications we receive from suitable candidates.
- Your application will remain in our internship site for six months and be further accessed by UNESCO managers all over the world.
- We don’t reply to every single candidate. If chosen, the manager will get in touch with you personally. If six months have passed and you have not heard anything, your application was unsuccessful.
