The Gothe-Institut Cairo is working on a project outside of Cairo. Through a number of initiatives, Egypt’s provinces provide support to artists and cultural workers.

Cairo is where much of Egypt’s cultural activity is concentrated. This effort intends to strengthen cultural projects outside of Cairo and place more of an emphasis on the regions.
In order to increase the visibility of cultural events through more thorough coverage, the Goethe-Institut Cairo has launched the Cultural Journalism Programme in the Egyptian provinces this year. While taking part in seminars on subjects including journalistic techniques and ethics, multimedia pieces, photo and video journalism, and reviews and analyses of creative creations, participants increase their expertise in the field of cultural journalism. A press tour of Egypt is also included, and the programme is accompanied by knowledgeable mentors.

Benefits

  • Participants from outside Cairo will get a restricted transportation allowance for public transportation as well as lodging in a hotel for the length of the 4 workshops in Cairo. – 4 workshops in the field of cultural journalism.
  • Mentorship – A planned press tour to various cultural events in Egypt that includes a modest travel budget for public transportation and hotel accommodations while on the trip.

Eligibility

  • Candidates must be Egyptian-based journalists with a minimum of two years of experience.
  • Candidates must demonstrate a desire to work on cultural projects in the provinces.
  • Candidates must agree to participate in the workshops and document at least one cultural event in a region of Egypt.

Selection Criteria

  • Completeness: The application is comprehensive, and all required information is provided.
  • Motivation: The drive to take part in the programme and report on events outside of Cairo is strong.
  • Relevance: The applicant will gain enormous advantages by taking part in the programme.
  • Experience: The applicant has at least two years of relevant journalism experience.
  • Quality: The earlier journalism is encouraging.
  • The judges will also take into account the following criteria in relation to the chosen participants as a whole:
    opportunity parity between men and women
    favourable group dynamics

Application

All applications will be reviewed by a jury who will select participants of the program. All applicants will be informed until end of October.
